mad.gif I just received an unsolicited SPAM fax sent from Protus IP Solutions. Obviously not a reputable company!

I've been using Myfax for about a month now. It is a reliable service, however, there are several deficencies in its technology:

1) It's not easy to have a single phone book and pick and choose who will receive a fax. You have to set up different groups for each individual person.

2) You can't design your own cover page.

3) For faxes going to more than one person, you can't use a cover page at all.

Barry, I just have my cover page in Word, and include it as the first attachment in the email when I'm faxing.

So, I attach two files - one is the cover page I want to use, the other is the document I want to fax. Since I generally add some comments on the cover page, I find this works for me.

I just signed up for the MyFax service. So far I've only received faxes but it's worked great so far. I haven't noticed any problems.

You can have the fax emailed to up to 3 email addresses which works fine for me although I don't know why they limit it to only 3. They also allow up to 200 incoming pages a month. That should be fine for me but may not be enough for others.

Like I said above, I haven't sent any faxes using the service so I can't comment on that. The website has a neat little demo that shows the process.

You can receive the fax via email in either PDF or TIF format. Right now, I've chosen PDF. A 2 page fax (PDF) came out to be about 90KB in size

It would be nice if they allowed you to set the CSID on incoming and outgoing faxes.

The website is clean which is one of the reasons I was drawn to it. The website does have problems if you don't use Internet Explorer. I tried with Firefox and Opera and had problems trying to sign up (the page wouldn't advance past the point where it asks for address information). When I tried with Internet Explorer, it worked fine.

The $10/month price includes a toll free number which was an added perk. I got an 866 number.

There is an affiliate program and if faxbeep had an affiliate link I would have gladly used it since this is where I found out about MyFax.

Anyways, I just wanted to share my experiences so far. I wish there were more thorough reviews of the various internet faxing solutions. I hope this helps someone out.

I tried Myfax and I didn't care for the quality of the faxes. I side with Barry on the 3 issues he cited. The plugin they offer does get around a couple of those issues a bit better. I also could not send from my native application using the "print" option as I did with WinFaxPro10. Using Myfax caused me to have to make a PDF file as an attachment which did not save me time.

MyFax has just introduced a referral program - existing customers that refer new subscribers will earn 1 month of free service.

Program details are here:

A MyFax subscription lets you receive 200 pages per month, and send 100 pages per month. The monthly subscription price is $10, and extra pages are $0.10 each.

There is currently a 'first month free' promotion, and Canadian pricing is also available.

Conflicting information in previous posts is dated, and now incorrect. Full current pricing information is at MyFax Internet Fax Service Pricing

My clunky fax machine finally died and so i decided to try these services. I had an efax account (free) but needed something reliable for business.

MyFax seems good - cheaper than efax, some nicer things like pdf and online access. Haven't had any need to try support, so can't say.

FYI for others investigating fax services--- the mixed reviews here prompted concern, but I checked out the myfax site. Turns out, they've got a wonderful test drive: enter your email addy and receive an immediate test fax. http://www.myfax.com/test_drive.asp

That's a level of intelligence seldom seen on commercial websites. Given BillyBandit's statements above, plus the fine test drive, the only reasons I have not yet signed up:

(1) I can't see the number which would be assigned.
(2) I have no clue what would appear as the ID info atop outgoing faxes.
(3) Concern re spam re above commentary
(4) Ease of use re phone book as noted above.

Could someone respond to these specific concerns? sad.gif

TIA!

It isn't clear how pricing is done for international faxes - you can send 100 pages a month - but how does international figure in this?

I'd like to integrate into it and offer something for my blog users/friends - but being based in Italy almost all the faxes will be sent to destinations in Europe.

I just signed up with Protus after having many bad experiences with Clickfax and so far protus has been a god send, they have 24 hour customer service, their pricing is great and I think if you sign up now they are waving the setup fee! They have been very helpfull with any problems I have had and always fast with a responce. So far so good. If I have any problems I will sure let you know.
