Telus uses Protus as its email to fax application. One would expect that if a country has a telephone link, sending a fax would be simple. Not necessarily. After recent phone discussions with a party in the Cook Islands Protus/Telus was unable to deliver an email/fax document to that country. A local communications service was willing to do so for $7.50/page. Some days later Telus responded with the news that a contact/contract was in place with the Cooks at a charge of $2.50/page. Who wants to wait days to send a fax?
Yesterday I tried unsuccessfully to send time sensitive financial information to an 800 fax number in a neighbouring province. An inquiry to the help desk explained that Protus' connections go via the US, and Canadian 800 fax service numbers are not recognized by the US system. After an 800 voice call was made to get a regular service number, the Protus/Telus email/fax was delivered.
Now I'm shopping for a replacement.
