I found this board searching for a replacement for eFax, which has recently become just too darn expensive.
Moderator Joe Simon locked an earlier thread (click here to read), saying the domain was for sale and there was no fax service offered.
I just checked out metrofax.com, and somebody has apparently bought the name. They're charging $9.95 a month for 1000 send/receive pages.
Unfortunately, they don't offer local numbers in my area. I found out because I called their customer service number at 6:45 PM PDT -- and a real live, native English speaker answered. When was the last time that happened when you called a tech company in the evening?
The guy was very polite and expressed regrets they couldn't give me a local number. If they had, I probably would have signed up on the spot.
